Many congratulations to Hannah Foxton (English, 2014), who graduated in 2017 with an outstanding first-class degree, on the publication of her undergraduate dissertation on JM Coetzee and William Faulkner, as an article in Safundi, a leading scholarly journal.
The dissertation, which was supervised by Professor Peter D. McDonald, and for which Hannah won a Gibbs Prize, is entitled, '"How does one lay to rest the ghost of Faulkner?": William Faulkner as Coetzeean "counter voice"'.
The article "explores JM Coetzee's evolving literary relationship to William Faulkner by examining Coetzee's published and unpublished works, including materials found in the Harry Ransom Center and the Amazwi Museum of South African Literature."
